Allow me to be a crazy cat lady for just a second - this is such a cute video of one of the most docile cats I've ever seen, putting up with a human with waaaaaay too much time on his hands. It's worth watching, if only just for the music. Be sure to check out Episodes 1 and 2 too. Even Steve was laughing, so you know it must be good.
So, it stands to reason that a cat named for a thrill killer (his brother Leopold still resides in Texas) would turn out to be the sweetest -- some would say, dumbest -- pet ever. It would never occur to him to bite or scratch anyone, and he was indiscriminate in his love. Except for my sister. He never much cottoned to her. Probably because that time she was cat-sitting while I was in New York, she ended up locking him in my apartment's basement for three days. Sure, he had a slightly unhealthy attachment to me, and Eric is probably pleased that he no longer has to race the cat at night to see who gets to sleep next to me, but, overall, there wasn't much to complain about when it came to him at all.
You see, Loeb the cat died on Tuesday at the relatively young age of 10. His asthma has become quite acute over the past couple of years and we knew it was coming. Plus, it happened quickly. Both good things. The past few days have been that weird mix of suddenly remembering that he's no longer here, grieving and trying to figure out how much the other cat, Pipo, knows. It has also brought us in close contact with the bizarre world of pet remains.
Continuing to plumb the depths of this LOLcat thing -- Leslie, I'm talking to you, here -- I offer the "Which LOLcat Are You? Test."
This is me, apparently. And I feel it just gets me in a way that no mere horoscope or palm reader or "Which Character From LOST Are You? Test" has ever been able to equal. Although I really cannot explain the math.

OK, so. LOLCats. Seriously, not trying to be pompous, or harrumphy, or sarcastic. Just for realz: I need help. Cuz I don't get it.
What I get:
1. People are finding pictures of cats and adding captions. Right. Check.
2. People are using a particular font when adding said captions. Very well.
3. People are using language inspired by SMS text messaging. OK. Got it.
4. Sometimes the results are funny.
But I can has cheezburger, I do not understand. I suspect the cat in that seminal photo wants itself a sandwich. Why not just say, Gives me a sandwich, we wants it? Why did I get a note from a top Hollywood screenwriter recently saying this is the funniest thing he's ever seen? Is there a reference I'm not getting, or a joke within a joke I missed? Is this alluding to foreign people trying to write English, which often is amusing? Or is this just about anthropomorphizing cats using language similar to that of Tinker in We 3? Which is fine, I guess?
I'm not trying to spit on something that is making people happy. I want to understand it so that I might steal some of that jollity for myself, if appropriate. I want to be down with the kids. Or at least not ignorant. I seek your assistance. Thank you.

Sometimes I miss Idaho. My mom looked out her kitchen window a few days ago, and found what appears to be a gray wolf in her yard.
